Matthew McConaughey Knew Camila Was The One The Moment He Saw Her: "A Good Woman Gives A Man Courage & Confidence"

Married since 2012, with three beautiful children, the actor is content with the way things have turned out.

Being an actor is no easy feat, and Matthew McConaughey had quite the busy schedule back in the day, with him being cast in about four movies a year. From script readings to acting, it would have been hectic, no doubt. Amidst all of this, the minute he met his soul mate, he fell for Brazilian model Camila Alves and their love story is one for the books! The 49-year-old actor has been married to the 38-year-old model a little shy of nine years, and they have three lovely children to complete their family.

It was in 2006 that the couple first laid eyes on each other in Joan's, a club on Sunset Boulevard, according to Southern Living. McConaughey, known for his looks and Southern charm, knew it the moment he saw "I went in my head, ‘This is not the kind of woman you call over across the room, McConaughey. Get your ass out of your chair and go get her.’ Which I did," he said, according to Fabiosa.

Ironically, at the time, he wasn't looking to get into a relationship, but one glance at Alves and all his plans were pushed aside. "I was not looking, I was very happily single. And healthily single, so I was not looking. I was sleeping well, I was spiritually sound, I was good with hanging with me," he said. Soon, the two couldn't deny the chemistry between them, and the two knew they were meant to be together. By 2008, the couple had their first child together, a little baby boy whom they named Levi. In 2009, they welcomed Levi's little sister, Vida.

"And it happened fast. Yeah, well we had children first, two of our children before we got married," said the actor. They were happy with the way things were, simply because tying the knot did nothing to change how they felt about each other. But then in 2011, Matthew decided to get down on one knee to propose to the love of his life. He was sure she'd say yes, but just for one moment, his confidence faltered and he panicked that she may turn him down.

According to TODAY, Matthew recalled when he asked Alves to marry him during a family Christmas visit, "I remember hitting the knee, looking into her eyes and I remember her face. I remember this smile coming up from her feet. I remember her having to catch her breath," he said. "And she didn’t say yes right away," the True Detective actor continued. "And then the whole family was going, 'Jeezus, she’s gonna say no.'"

Thankfully, she said yes, and in 2012, the couple exchanged vows, with Levi being the ring-bearer, and daughter Vida being the flower girl. While it all sounds like a happy romedy,  there were a few hiccups the couple ran into in the days leading up to their wedding. McConaughey was simply too busy to get married. The wedding date was being constantly changed, and it seemed like Alves's patience was running thin.

Finally, Camila was tired of waiting for him to set a date, so she set one herself before presenting him with an invitation and telling him, “Be there," according to ET Canada. Soon enough, Levi and Vida had a brother—Livingston—in 2012. That's when he knew he better get is priorities sorted and became a family-first man.

McConaughey also makes it a point to credit his beautiful wife for all the success that's come his way. "A good woman," said the actor, according to Today, "gives a man courage and confidence — the courage to have the confidence to go and do it, to not be worried as much or consider as much what the rest of the world thinks."
